Group Volunteers
How to volunteer as a group
Welcome to Doorways, where your mission meets our mission. Bring your care, passion, and dedication. We’ll bring the opportunities to make a real difference in people’s lives.
Since Doorways’ founding in 1978, community members have come together as critical partners in our mission. There are many opportunities for your group to learn more about the issues, join our cause, and offer support to survivors and their families at Doorways. Here are ways you can get your group involved, including youth and kids!
Doorways can provide your team with a variety of educational sessions, and each can be tailored to your group’s unique needs and interests. Please submit this form to request a training or workshop and learn more.

Kitting projects are a great fit for team-building, service days, and seasonal or special events. Groups can host kitting events on their own, or request Doorways’ representation at the event. Many groups choose to pair a kitting event with a training or an educational workshop from Doorways. Kitting can be hosted onsite at your location, or, schedule and space permitting, at Doorways’ Community Services Center. Please contact us to coordinate a kitting event, with or without Doorways’ representation, and for the complete list of items for each kit type.
• Safe Haven Kits: These kits contain travel size personal hygiene products, which are provided to folks upon arrival to our Safe House, so we can offer the warmest welcome possible to those coming into our care.
• Wellness Kits (Adults): These kits are provided to the adults receiving counseling in our Revive program, which offers free trauma-informed counseling to survivors of sexual and/or domestic violence, to help ease their anxiety.
• Wellness Kits (Kids): These kits are provided to our youngest clients, who often also struggle with anxiety and stress, through our Children and Family Services program to help ease their anxiety and increase their confidence.
• Kid’s Snack Packs: These packs are provided to the children across our various programs and can be taken with them for school lunch, as an after school pick me up, or to provide our families experiencing high levels of food insecurity with additional support at home. We are relatively flexible with the snacks included inside the packs, however, for our kids with nut allergies we kindly request that no peanut/nut snacks are included inside these packs.
The following kits are provided through our HomeStart Supportive Housing program, which assists our families in the transition out of shelter into their own independent living:
• Set Their Table Kits: To help ease the transition into their new space, these kits contain essential kitchen items to provide our families the opportunity to share a meal together to make their new space truly feel like home.
• Welcome Home Kits: These kits contain common household cleaning supplies for our families transitioning out of shelter, so they can keep their new home comfortable and clean.
Through our Back to School and Winter Wishes campaigns, we pair your group with one or more families at Doorways, providing you with their wish lists.
When you sponsor an event, you provide safe harbor, healing, and hope to survivors and their families. Sponsorships include event tickets, so your group can attend and celebrate together.
Share Doorways’ hotline number, website, and other resources on bulletin boards, staff or team intranets, newsletters, and more. Contact us to request specific resources for your group.
