Meet Our Board and Executive Staff

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is responsible for oversight of the organization, its operations, and its property. The board approves organizational goals and objectives, policies and procedures, authorizes the creation of new programs, oversees financial affairs, and has the fiscal authority to disburse and allocate funds. Much of the board’s work is accomplished through its committees that include board members, staff and other volunteers. Committees include: Finance, Governance, Executive, Development and Communications, Performance, and Facilities. A nominating subcommittee recruits potential members to ensure a balance of diverse backgrounds, professions, and experience. Members may serve no more than two three-year terms.

Melissa MacGregor, President

Melissa MacGregor

Melissa MacGregor is Deputy General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association in Washington, D.C. where she practices corporate and securities law. She is also a member of the board of directors of the Financial Data Exchange. Prior to joining SIFMA, Ms. MacGregor practiced in the corporate securities practices at Crowell & Moring LLP and Clifford Chance LLP. She was the first PTA President of Discovery Elementary School after helping to form that organization. She has lived in Arlington for over 20 years with her husband, Jim, and their children Elizabeth and Alex. When she is not driving kids around town, she enjoys home design, reading, and planning family trips. She holds a J.D. from American University Washington College of Law and a B.A. from St. Lawrence University.

Lauren Kass Harnishfeger, Vice President

Lauren Kass Harnishfeger

A career fundraising and nonprofit executive, Lauren Kass Harnishfeger worked with the Student Conservation Association (SCA) since 2015 to 2023, serving in a variety of roles including Vice President of Philanthropy. Before joining SCA, Lauren served as a Vice President for Development at both the National Building Museum and the National Park Foundation. Prior to that, she held leadership positions at Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens, and the Smithsonian Institution. Lauren holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from Trinity College, a postgraduate diploma in the Fine and Decorative Arts awarded by the Royal Society of Arts in London, and a Master of Arts in Museum Studies from George Washington University. She and her family reside in Arlington, VA.

Tanvi Sinha, CPA, Treasurer

Tanvi Sinha

Tanvi Sinha is a CPA and Audit Manager with Matthews Carter & Boyce. Tanvi mainly works with not-for-profit organizations, closely held businesses and government contractors and has significant auditing and accounting experience with various organizations. Tanvi has significant audit experience pertaining to compliance and internal control analysis, design and integration of accounting systems for small and medium-sized businesses, not-for-profit entities and governmental organizations. She has an in-depth knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards. Tanvi is an active member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA). Tanvi lives in Northern Virginia with her husband and two boys. She loves to paint and make mandalas in free time and loves gardening.

Christine Leonhardt-Kimm, Secretary

Christine Leonhardt-Kimm

Christine Leonhardt-Kimm is the Director of Human Resources at the Insured Retirement Institute in Washington, D.C., where she heads up the Human Resources function. Christine has worked in a variety of industries including biomedical research, aerospace and defense, airline, legal, and non-profit sector. Her strong business experience has helped organizations align their business priorities and programs with their overall business strategy. Christine has been involved with Doorways for over a decade and admires its mission, pro-active services, strong employee team, and that it is serving society. Christine holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from The Catholic University of America and a Master’s degree in Finance from Johns Hopkins University. Christine lives in Northern Virginia with her husband, Terry. In her spare time, Christine enjoys playing tennis and golf as well as traveling, reading, and yoga.

Michelle Sagatov, Past President

Michelle Sagatov

Michelle Sagatov is a Realtor at Washington Fine Properties and opened their 9th office for them in Arlington, VA, where she helps buyers and sellers in all price ranges. She is also an affiliate of ODE Design + Build, Ateliers Jacob DC, both owned by her husband, Yuri Sagatov. There she helps clients evaluate properties, helps with lot acquisition and helps give future value to properties before they are built. Michelle has been in Real estate since 2006. Prior to becoming a Realtor, Michelle served with the Arlington County Police Department for 5 years. Michelle was one of the first members of AWE (Arlington Women Entrepreneurs), is a speaker for NVAR on Realtor Safety and presenter at HERrican Arlington. Michelle and her husband Yuri Sagatov have lived in 11 different neighborhoods, all in Arlington County, due to their side business of flipping houses. Michelle has been a resident of Arlington County since 2001, she was one of the first girls’ soccer coaches for Arlington Soccer Association. When she is not working you can find her on the sidelines watching her son playing sports or visiting her daughter at UVA! Michelle has been connected to Doorways since 2014 where she has served in a variety of roles from fundraising, planning their yearly fundraiser, or helping with the renovation of the first safehouse.

Ilona Birenbaum

Ilona Birenbaum

Ilona Birenbaum, Founding Principal of The Wynhurst Group, is a leadership and organizational consultant/leadership coach with over 30 years of experience and a diverse organizational development background. She is an adjunct professor and coach with American University’s School of Public Affairs’ Key Executive Leadership Program, as well as a Guide for Chief, a private network focused on connecting and supporting women leaders. Her specialties include leadership coaching, facilitation, change management, leadership assessment and development, action learning, performance management, training, strategic planning, and conflict resolution. As a leadership coach, Ilona offers her clients an intentional approach to solving such issues as communication, presentation skills, leadership presence, delegation, teamwork, conflict management, and strategic thinking. Through insightful questions, she helps her clients increase their self-awareness and enhance skills in managing themselves and others. Known for easily building rapport with senior executives, Ilona combines her psychology and organizational development backgrounds with her business experience in working with senior executives. Ilona earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Masters of Labor and Industrial Relations from Michigan State University. She is fluent in Russian and enjoys yoga, travel, reading, and spending time with her family.

Anne Bodnar



Anne Bodnar is the Director of Client Services and Business Development at DataLab USA, an analytics-driven award-winning database marketing services company that focuses on optimizing multichannel direct marketing solutions. Prior to DataLab USA, Anne worked for GEICO for more than 25 years. Anne earned her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Actuarial Science from Frostburg State University. She lives in Arlington with her husband, Mike, and two children. Anne enjoys running, spending time with family and friends, and attending her kids’ sporting events.

Debi Cain

Debi Cain

Debi Cain is a senior federal law enforcement leader with more than 20 years of experience protecting communities through the investigation of financial crime, and violent crime. She currently serves as a Special Agent with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Office of Inspector General (FDIC OIG), where she leads complex investigations involving bank fraud, money laundering, and other crimes affecting FDIC insured financial institutions.

Prior to joining FDIC OIG, Debi served as a Special Agent and Certified Federal Polygraph Examiner with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), where she held leadership roles in investigations, intelligence, legislative affairs, and policy development. She began her law enforcement career with the Nampa Police Department, serving as a patrol officer before becoming a violent crimes detective assigned to the Nampa Family Justice Center; one of the nation’s first multidisciplinary centers dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and elder abuse. That experience instilled a deep appreciation for the power of collaborative, victim-centered services and continues to shape her commitment to supporting individuals and families during times of crisis.

Beyond her professional work, Debi is committed to serving her community through volunteer leadership. She coaches youth soccer with the Arlington Soccer Association and enjoys mentoring young athletes.

Christy Cole, CAP

Christy Cole

Christy Cole is the Director of Philanthropy for Arlington Community Foundation. She serves as a trusted partner for donors, professional advisors, and nonprofits. With over 25 years of experience in gift planning and nonprofit fundraising and leadership, she is passionate about connecting resources where they are needed and about helping people develop and achieve their philanthropic goals. As a consultant, Christy has advised non-profits on major and planned giving program design and assessment, campaign strategy and implementation, and board development. She previously served as the Director of Planned Giving for the United States Naval Academy Foundation. Active in nonprofit leadership, Christy previously served on Doorways’ board of directors from 2008 to 2015 and on the board of Aspire! After School Learning from 2017-2023. Christy lives in Arlington, Virginia, with her husband, Don, and their three children, Ryan, Andrew, and Caroline.

Kristy Croushore

Kristy Croushore

Kristy Croushore is Vice President, Government Relations for Fidelity Investments, a leading provider of investment management, retirement planning, portfolio guidance, brokerage, benefits outsourcing, and other financial products and services to over 51 million individuals, institutions, and financial intermediaries. Since joining Fidelity in 2019, Ms. Croushore has worked to align policy outcomes with the firm’s strategic objectives, advocating on behalf of the firm’s interests in Washington on a range of legislative and regulatory policies before government officials. Her areas of focus include financial services regulation, broker-dealer compliance, and strategic communications planning. Ms. Croushore previously spent 16 years at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and its predecessor (NASD) in senior roles within the areas of government affairs, corporate communications, and operations and administration. Prior to FINRA, Ms. Croushore was a consultant with Ernst & Young, focusing on international tax and strategy projects for clients across a wide variety of sectors. Ms. Croushore hails from the Pittsburgh area and earned a BA in Finance & International Business from The George Washington University and an MBA from the University of Maryland. She has a Certificate in Legislative Studies from Georgetown University’s Government Affairs Institute and holds the Certified Regulatory and Compliance Professional (CRCP®) designation from FINRA.

Megan Doern

Megan Doern

With 20+ years of experience in communications, media relations, and public affairs, Megan Doern has worked for a variety of organizations – in government, a PR agency and in-house corporate communications. Currently, Megan is Head of External Communications at Deloitte Consulting LLP with a team of 20 public relations professionals. Together, this team elevates Deloitte Consulting’s brand in the news media on topics such as tech transformation, human capital trends, sustainability, and customer experience. Additionally, she runs works with executives on their external platforms and brand positioning. She first joined Deloitte in 2014 as the PR lead for its federal government practice. Megan, a Seattle native, lives in Arlington, Virginia with her husband, two daughters, and their dog, Mochi and in her spare time can be found reading a book or on her Peloton.

Renee Gutshall

Renee Gutshall

Renee Gutshall is a public servant who has served for twenty-five years in a wide variety of roles. Renee is also the President of Clarendon Home Services, a family-owned small business providing services to homeowners in Arlington since 2004. Her past service experience has included the boards of Challenging Racism, Western Presbyterian Church, and holding various positions in local Arlington school PTAs and Girl Scouts of the USA. Renee has lived in the Clarendon neighborhood since 1997 with her children and many pets. She loves gardening, cooking and traveling and enjoying time with friends. She holds both a Master’s degree in environmental policy and a Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs from The George Washington University. Renee is honored to carry on her late husband Erik’s love for the Doorways organization by serving on the Board.

Jhoanne Nunes

Jhoanne Nunes

Jho Nunes is a Principal at CLA (CliftonLarsonAllen) with over 20 years of experience. Jho has comprehensive knowledge of all areas of not-for-profit accounting including audit preparation, grant accounting, month-end close, budgeting and forecasting, and strategic consulting. She has a wealth of experience in performing CFO and Controller duties, where she has led accounting and finance teams, developed comprehensive accounting policies and procedures manuals, and overseen the implementation of finance and accounting systems. Jho began her career at Ernst & Young where she performed audits of commercial and private industry clients in various industries, including real estate and manufacturing. Jho holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy degree from University of Santo Tomas. Based in Arlington, Virginia, Jho enjoys cooking and baking, traveling, and exploring small towns in her free time.

Mary-Anne Liles

Mary-Anne Liles

Mary-Anne is a retired Registered Nurse with over 30 years of professional experience in healthcare. A graduate of the University of Texas, she most recently served Arlington County for nearly two decades as a Public Health Nurse. Her commitment to public service is reflected in more than 30 years of dedicated community involvement.

Mary-Anne has held leadership positions in several nonprofit organizations, including serving as President of both the Marjorie Hughes Fund for Children and the Northern Virginia Alliance League. She is also the co-founder of the Virginia McCaffrey Fund for Children at Doorways, and her philanthropic work extends across many local causes focused on family well-being and community support.

In retirement, Mary-Anne continues to uplift and inspire through co-hosting the Midsters Podcast, which highlights meaningful conversations around midlife experiences. She holds a U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License and enjoys spending time traveling, photographing the natural world, and boating on the Chesapeake Bay. She and her husband have raised two young adult children in Arlington, where they have called home for three decades.

Georgia McCullough, JD, MPH, RN

Georgia McCullough

Georgia McCullough JD, MPH, RN, is the Associate Vice President, Enterprise Risk Management, at VHC Health. She is passionate about applying her skills and energy to address health challenges. Between her education and experience as a registered nurse and health law attorney, Georgia has served a clinical health practitioner and legal advocate for over 20 years. She has extensive experience in nursing, health law, public health, and risk management. Georgia earned her Master’s Degree in Public Health from University of Hawaii at Manoa, her JD from Whittier Law School, BA in Political Science from University of California, Berkeley, and AS in Nursing from Cabrillo College.

Casey Nolan

Casey Nolan

Casey Nolan is a Senior Managing Director at CRC Companies LLC, an Arlington-based real estate development and investment firm. He has 25 years of development and construction experience, primarily focused on market rate and workforce multifamily housing in the DC region. Casey is passionate about making a positive impact in the community through his work creating housing, his engagement with neighborhoods, and leadership on other non-profit boards. He has lived in Arlington for 19 years with his wife and 3 boys. In his spare time Casey can be found volunteering on pool decks at his children’s swim meets year-round. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Virginia.

Diana Ortiz, M.Ed., LPC, Doorways President and CEO

Diana Ortiz is a passionate and creative leader with 20 years of experience advocating for the wellbeing and safety of children, families, communities, specifically those impacted by complex trauma and violence. Diana is committed to working with survivors of intimate partner violence and leading a new generation of advocates who collectively and creatively serve our most vulnerable neighbors while making long lasting and meaningful changes and solutions in our communities. Diana originally came to Doorways in 2009 as the Child Mental Health Specialist, she then was promoted to Clinical Director in 2012 when she oversaw the full spectrum of Doorways’ client services programs. In 2021 after returning from serving overseas as a civilian managing the Family Advocacy and Child Abuse Prevention Programs for a service members and their families at the Marine Corps Air Station in Japan, Doorways appointed Diana as President and CEO. Diana is a proud first-generation immigrant Latina, and a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), registered clinical supervisor in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Learn more about Diana and Doorways’ executive staff.

Eliseo Pilco

Eliseo Pilco

Lieutenant Eliseo Pilco is a recognizable fixture of community policing in Arlington County who has dedicated more than 35 years to ensuring public safety at home and abroad. Lieutenant Pilco retired from the Arlington County Police Department (ACPD) in 2025 after a distinguished 27+ year career. Lieutenant Pilco was hired by ACPD in 1997 and served in various roles within the department including with the Patrol Section, as an officer, field training officer and supervisor, the Auto Theft Unit, Special Victims Unit, School Resource Officer Unit, and most recently with the Community Engagement Division as ACPD’s liaison to Arlington Public Schools and the Department of Human Services. Lieutenant Pilco now serves as the Towing Manager for the Arlington County Public Safety Communications and Emergency Management. Prior to his career with ACPD, Lieutenant Pilco also served six years active-duty and two years in the reserves in the United States Marine Corps. 

Jade Kim Trusso

Jade Kim Trusso

Jade Kim Trusso is the Founder and CEO of Nothing in Between Studio, a modern self-care sanctuary that provides non-toxic nail, facial, and holistic massage services while keeping the community and planet in mind. She studied fashion and held marketing/client development positions in the high-end fashion industry, Louis Vuitton for several years in South Korea. She grew up in Korea, and lived in Australia for a while, then decided to move to the United States in 2014 with her husband and started her business journey to expand her caring heart towards people and animals in society. She has been a donor to Doorways since 2019 with the purpose of returning and contributing to the community where she gained support and love. Now, she wants to take one step further, joining the Board to create a better community with her mission and insight.

Julia Whiston

Julia Whiston

Julia retired in 2017 after serving as Executive Director for the Washington Press Club Foundation and subsequently Executive Director of the White House Correspondents’ Association for over two decades.

She was drawn to Doorways by their tireless commitment to the community serving some of the most vulnerable among us. Julia lives in Arlington with her husband who is a retired oral and maxillofacial surgeon. She is now busy trying to catch up on family members, exercise and reading.

Diana Ortiz, M.Ed., LPC, President and CEO

Diana Ortiz is a passionate and creative leader with 20 years of experience advocating for the wellbeing and safety of children, families, communities, specifically those impacted by complex trauma and violence. Joy Myers, Chief Development and Strategy Officer

Joy began her career out of college in service to five rural communities of Appalachia, as one of 50 Corporation for Enterprise Development Americorps VISTAs across the U.S. charged with piloting an asset-building program to promote pathways out of poverty. Twenty years later, Joy has been honored to serve a diverse handful of important missions, from economic development to housing, hunger to education. Today at Doorways, Joy brings her passion for social justice and her decades of fundraising experience to serve Doorways’ mission to create pathways out of homelessness, domestic violence and sexual assault. Joy is eager to forge connections that will further this mission and embolden the children, individuals, and families in our care to realize safe, stable, and empowered lives.

Outside of the office, Joy enjoys hiking, mystery novels, and rooting for the Hokies.

Karin Kelley, M.A., Chief Program Officer

Karin brings over 20 years of leadership experience in the non-profit and public education sectors in California, Oregon and the Washington DC metro focused on supporting young people and families to thrive. She is a passionate leader with a deep commitment to social justice and ensuring all children and adults – regardless of race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, disability, or personal circumstances – have the opportunity to reach their full potential. 

Most recently Karin served as the Director of Family Partners with PHILLIPS Programs, an organization supporting children with behavioral health challenges and their families. Prior to moving to the east coast, Karin was the Executive Director of Teen Success, Inc., a California-based non-profit organization supporting the success of teen mothers and their children across the state. Karin has a BA in Psychology from Santa Clara University and a MA in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University.  

Karin is the mother of three amazing children and spends her non-working hours at soccer games and swim meets. She also enjoys hiking, reading and playing with her dog.

Marla Carter, SHRM-SCP, Chief Human Resources Officer

With more than 15 years of experience in Human Resources (HR), Marla is passionate about supporting peoples’ personal growth and development as well as helping organizations cultivate an environment that fosters belonging, diversity, equity and inclusion. At Doorways, Marla leads Doorways’ comprehensive HR strategy, objectives, and practices to support a culture that reflects the agency’s values and mission. Before joining Doorways, Marla spent more than 13 years overseeing many aspects of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’(NFWF) Human Resources Department. At NFWF, Marla held many HR positions, including Manager and Senior HR Manager. In her last position, she served as the organization’s first Director of Diversity and Inclusion. She has also worked with small businesses as an HR consultant.

Additionally, Marla is the founding president of The Compass Rose Foundation – a program dedicated to the mentorship of under-represented youth. Marla earned her bachelor’s degree in business management from Hampton University and is a Senior Certified Professional with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-SCP).

Melissa Kenney, Chief Operations Officer

Melissa is a dedicated professional with more than 10 years of operational experience in the legal and nonprofit industries. At Doorways, Melissa ensures Doorways’ mission-focused, client-centered approach utilizes resources efficiently, including outstanding management of our valued volunteers, space, and facility infrastructure. Melissa originally came to Doorways to serve as a Safehouse Hotline/Coverage and Children’s volunteer, logging more than 350 hours in three years. She then joined Doorways’ staff as Volunteer Resource Manager. During her four years in that role, Melissa implemented Doorways’ sexual assault response program, now called HARP (Hospital Accompaniment Response Program), and was recognized with the 2017 Volunteer Arlington Leadership Legacy Award for her service. Most recently, Melissa has supported Doorways’ finance team and the volunteer program as a consultant, providing critical coverage during transitions and audits. Beyond Doorways, Melissa has spent 13 years with WardChisholm, LLP (previously Robert E. Ward and Associates) in roles including Senior Advisor, Operations and Finance. She earned her bachelor’s from Syracuse University.

Tracy Carney, Chief Financial Officer

Tracy Carney, who joined Doorways in June 2013, provides leadership on financial management, accounting and reporting, and treasury management operations. Additionally, Tracy works closely with other members of the Doorways team to support agency operations and management. Tracy is a seasoned finance and accounting professional, whose career spans over 25 years. Her range of expertise includes accounting and financial reporting, financial planning, and operational accounting and controls. Prior to joining Doorways, Tracy served as an independent accounting professional, where she provided accounting services to a portfolio of profit and nonprofit companies. Additionally, she previously held a senior financial leadership position at a leading information technology and services company. Tracy began her accounting career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (formerly Price Waterhouse), where she served as a member of the firm’s audit and assurance practice. Tracy holds a B.B.A. degree from the College of William and Mary and is a Certified Public Accountant.
