Doorways was first recognized by Spur Local (formerly the Catalogue for Philanthropy), elected as a feature charity, in the 2005-06 Catalogue. A panel of expert reviewers from area foundations, corporate giving programs, nonprofit organizations and the government helps select charities to featured, including Doorways. Connect with Kids Champion Award

Carlyssa Winstead, Doorways’ Youth Specialist, named a “Connect with Kids Champion” by the Arlington Partnership for Children, Youth and Families. The Connect with Kids Champions award was created by Mary Ann Moran in 2004 as a way to recognize people in the community who go out of their way to develop positive, supportive relationships with youth and inspire others to do so. Celebrating 40 Years of Impact

The Virginia General Assembly commended Doorways for its legacy of support to victims of homelessness, violence, or abuse on the occasion of its 40th anniversary. Read the joint resolution.

Volunteer Arlington Award

Melissa Kenney received the Leadership Center for Excellence’s 2017 Volunteer Arlington Leadership Legacy Award. Recipients are selected for their demonstration of leadership in our community and support of the Leadership Center’s mission “to enlighten, inspire and connect” leaders in our community. The recipients also exemplify a variety of leadership capacities, visionary thinking, servant leadership and ethics in thoughts, words and actions. Read more.

Arlington Cares

As part of Volunteer Arlington‘s Arlington Cares: A Celebration of Volunteerism, 25 of Doorways’ amazing volunteers were recognized for their service. These volunteers each gave over 100 hours of shelter coverage and/or Children’s Program services or on-call SARA coverage in fiscal year 2017. Read more.

Doorways’ website redesign by Matrix Group International, Inc., a digital agency in the Washington, D.C. area specializing in web design, development, AMS, integration, branding, mobile and e-marketing services, received the 2016 Best in Class Award, the IMA’s top honor. Read more.

Washington Post Award for Excellence

Doorways, Arlington’s leading provider and advocate for survivors of homelessness, violence and abuse was honored on June 15th by the Center for Nonprofit Advancement as the 2009 winner of The Washington Post Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management. Now in its 21st year, The Washington Post Award is a competitive program open to all 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in the Washington metropolitan area.
