Doorways’ shelter and housing programs offer survivors and their families a safe place to stay, services to support their needs, and ultimately, help finding a home of their own.

Doorways’ Safehousing provides emergency shelter for all survivors, as well as their children and their pets. Safehousing is accessed through Doorways’ 24-hour hotline (703-237-0881) and is prioritized for Arlington County residents.

Our HomeStart Supportive Housing Program provides next-step housing and support to clients graduating from shelter into homes of their own.

Through trauma-informed support services in shelter and housing, we provide case management, goal planning, and help accessing additional resources in our community. We provide dedicated children’s services to kids and their parents. Doorways’ community-based services are also available to clients in our shelter and housing programs.

Safehousing (Shelter)

Doorways provides Arlington’s only emergency shelter, called safehousing, for survivors and their families who are in imminent danger due to domestic and sexual violence. Doorways also offers a Safe Kennel for survivors’ pets. Safehousing is accessed through Doorways’ 24-hour hotline (703-237-0881) and is prioritized for Arlington County residents.

HomeStart Supportive Housing Program

Doorways’ HomeStart Supportive Housing Program offers next-step housing for survivors and their families exiting shelter into homes of their own. Our staff supports clients throughout the transition from shelter to housing, where our services continue to help ensure survivors’ ongoing safety and stability.

Supportive Services

Doorways offers comprehensive support in both shelter and housing. Services include case management (goal planning and housing, financial, and employment support) and dedicated children’s services. Our community-based services, including counseling and court advocacy, are also offered to clients in our shelter and housing programs.

Children’s Services

Doorways’ Children’s Services offer a range of supports to children in our safehousing and supportive housing programs, including the following:

• Case management for children and families
• Child-centered art and play-based therapies
• Assistance with school, daycare, and summer camp enrollment, accommodations, and other learning resources
• Help navigating and accessing additional community resources, such as medical care
